Reply To: Isobel: A blacksmith after marriage?

Here’s what I do for spouses to give them more life. I use Follower Live Package to make my spouse a follower. Then I use My Home is Your Home like so. I assign my spouse my house as their home and my bed as theirs (redundant but I do it to make sure it all works.) Then I take them outside and assign them a spot to work during the day. Usually this is the market so it looks like they are wandering around doing things all day. The time’s I’ve married Isobel, I tell her to work in area where the forge is. As she’s near the forge idle point, she happily works the forge along with whoever the actual blacksmith is. Her inventory is still generic, but it’s a little more lifelike.

THen you can dismiss them and they’ll have this new, more lifelike AI package. NOTE – you have to reset all this if you move your spouse! Otherwise, you’ll find them wandering to the old spots you assigned them

That’s a good idea. I’ve only just got FLP and haven’t had much time for gaming lately so haven’t quite got to know it yet, how do you assign this stuff? (I have a little trouble making my way through the machine translation to find all the fiddly bits.)

Just wanted to marry Anum, why do I have to do all of this crap?

I had this mod a long time ago, and it did add a lot of flavor to my game. I especially loved Anum-La. I’m a big fan of beast races, going so far as to try my best not to play as any human-like races in game. Imagine my delight when I found that I could marry her too! I never had a companion that I loved more. After a while I had to wipe my game clean because of too many errors and instability, losing this mod in the process.

I recently reinstalled this mod excited to go adventuring with my favorite Argonian wifey. I looked at her page to make sure of what I had to do to get her hand in marriage. “Wait a minute, what’s with all of these new quests?” Okay, no big deal. I go to check them out to see how to start them. Uh huh, I have to finish some other quests to start this big long quest just so that I can marry a lizard?!

I’m a simple guy with simple needs, so my request is simple. Is there any way to marry Anum-La without going through all of those hoops? Maybe like through console commands or something?

Spouse talking to children?

So I noticed something strange.

When I adopted my children, I thought your spouse would never talk to them since the mod was made before the Hearthfire DLC. Even with the Hearthfire patch, I thought its sole purpose was to move them into your Hearthfire home.

That is, until my kid came up to my husband, Rumarin and asked him for an allowance. Rumarin replied with “Well you did convince the farmer the gloves I sold him were enchanted, so here”. I was pretty shocked to see them actually interacting and was able to see it once again with my other child.

So I assume it was because of the Hearthfire patch which is a pretty cool feature to add so thanks for that. I was wondering if it was the same for other marriageable NPCS and if so, which ones? I would love some replies to see if this happened to anyone else

Oh yeah, I forgot about that! In fact, I think I told someone recently they don’t talk, but I forgot there’s a few exceptions.

I believe Tikrid, Rumarin, Isobel, Amalee, Froa, and oddly enough, Ylgyne.

Basically spouses voiced by Anna, Jay, and Jessica because they’re super reliable with lines. I think Sveekins happened to be recording Ylgyne at the time so that’s probably why he’s in there, not that he isn’t reliable as well, just not as prominently featured as the others.

Zora and marriage

So I´m having some trouble marrying Zora.

When approached, she says “An Amulet of Mara, hm? Careful. A girl might get the wrong idea.” I get the post-main quest dialogue option that Alduin is defeated, and selecting the dialogue option that I´d like to be something more than best friends gives me the reply “You would? Now that is a surprise. The handsome prince falling for the damaged princess. Life is not a fairy tale, my prince. Yet I have always dreamed in one day might be” and so on. My next dialogue option is “what will you do now?”, then either “Oh? And what does my Thane want?” or “Well then, what do you want? Gods if I know.”. Both gives the same reply, saying that she´s forever mine.

I´m also getting the dialogue “Do you think you might wear one of these amulets again?” To which she replies “I will not suffer the embarrasment my lord, but perhaps another will do so on my behalf. I have not given up hope you see, that someday, a dashing prince will look past this meddling of scars to see the real me.”

I have dismissed all followers, reset the marriage quest, reset my faction, and for all intents and purposes, it should work, as far as I know, but nothing I do seem to work. What am I doing wrong?

Troubleshooting and bug reports should be made by clicking the header button on the top right:

But I went ahead and reposted your specific question here:

Short answer is you need to own a house, haven’t done the vanilla requirements, or are female.

Is Arelthor important?

I just stumbled over Arelthor’s body in the Morthal Swamp. But I was in a hurry and forgot where it was and can’t find it again. I hadn’t met him before in game. I don’t know what what killed him or how long he’s been dead.

If I can’t find his corpse again and resurrect him, how badly will I be screwed?

Bonus question: Is there a list of which NPCs are used in which quest? It would be helpful.

No, Arelthor doesn’t play a role in any quest, at least, for now.

Zora really grew on me. Initially I found her a bit annoying and I had trouble actually understanding what she was saying. But after touring around with her for a while and doing the Children Fair quest, I must say I really like her a lot now! :-) I gave her a Shrouded Armor Mask we took off some assasin and it looks really good on her as she has nice eyes. Zora is a lovely character indeed. I’d like to marry her but I found out she only likes men. Which is perfectly fitting for her, I find, and not sure if originally done so by Kris on purpose or by accident. So we are just best girlfriends in this play-through. :-)

One little gripe: Me too I find that her sound files are a little too soft, as has been stated before. I wish they were a bit louder. Otherwise all is perfect!

Amalee follower?

Can Amalee become a follower/adventuring companion? I found the answer to this question nowhere else.

Anyway, GREAT mod! One of the best I have ever seen.

Yes, you should be able to recruit her after asking about traveling or something, it’s one of the top level dialogue branches I think. I just don’t remember because it’s been ages.

Basically if you talk to her it should appear.

If you want more information on followers, quests, and the like, try the Wiki button on the header. Similarly, if you need technical support or have a bug to report, there’s a bug report button on the right side of the header as well.

Ah, you’re awesome to reply.

I encountered her at Eldergleam Sanctuary while doing the vanilla quest for Danica Pure-Spring, I totally exhausted her dialogue tree and there was no option to request a follow.

Anyway. I figure I’ll run The Way Of The Nine and Bards, Beasts And Beauties quests and try again.

Thanks.

Weird, yes, she should be available as a follower right after you meet her, I think. I haven’t finished either of those quests and I have her as a follower.

Did you already have another follower when you talked to Amalee?

Hey guys. New here – this will be my first post but I’ve asked a few questions over at Nexus. I have a question concerning Zora and marriage. Hopefully this is the right place to put it.

In my experience, getting married is meant to be the beginning of something great, not the end, like it’s so often portrayed in the movies. Marriage certainly isn’t smooth sailing but I suppose most movies I watch end at marriage because afterwards the topics of conflict into the chick-flick department, which says more about my preference for movies than my marriage, hopefully! Anyway, I have a question: Zora Fair-Child seems like a great NPC. I love having my ego stoked even if I don’t know whether she means it all the time, and she’s very deep. But after all her quests are done, and once the marriage is underway, is that it? Is there anything special about being married to her over vanilla NPCs? This is my first time playing Skyrim but I have watched a video of a player returning home and his spouse saying, “Hello husband. Back from another adventure?” Or something very similar. He then ignored her and walked past her to get some stuff out of the chest and go back to adventuring. I cringed, watching that. It was awful. So what’s Zora supply in the way of dialogue/quests/character development once you marry her? Is it worth it? Alternatively I could finish Zora’s quests and install Vilja. I find Vilja annoying in some respects, but if I married Zora and then she just said hello whenever I walked into my house… well, I think I’d rather be annoyed. And I’ve already installed Inigo:).

Emma did a fantastic job with Vilja, and I think that’s more of what you’re looking for. I don’t think Zora is un-immersive by any means, she has thousands of lines and more content than most, but my priority has always been quests and content everyone can enjoy, as well as NPCs and stories to fill an entire world as opposed to a single companion. The marriage stuff is more icing on the cake as opposed to the point of the mod.

Any more content I feel is an unreasonable demand. There are only so many hours in the day, and believe me when I say I’ve used all of them.

Now I get that you aren’t consciously aware of how much time I’ve put into making this mod for free, so it’s easy to say a lack of content annoys you. Maybe you think it’s awful that a mod with about 44,000 voice files does not have 45,000, because you only notice the missing 1000 and it’s something you wanted. So you cringe. Maybe you think to yourself, “Gee, that’s lazy.”

But if you walked an hour in my shoes, saw how much work I’ve put in, and what I was ultimately trying to accomplish, you’d know that it wasn’t for a lack of effort.

Yes, this mod isn’t really focused on marriage, and there’s nothing wrong with that. 3dNPC’s to whom you’re married will recognize you as their spouse in their own quests, but there’re no quests or complex developments unlocked by marriage.

Having said so, this mod’s characters do have a somewhat bigger supply of post-marriage dialogue than Vanilla (especially Isobel), and there’re some hidden perks (Olette and Veralene Ashwood have scenes with each other, if you adopt the former and marry the latter), but that’s it.
